"Living Simply in the Culture" Tour
Enjoy rural tourism at its best; spend a day living the life of an Expat in San Ramon, a coffee town located in Costa Rica’s western Central Valley.
Cost: $125.00 per person, including three meals.
Sample Itinerary
- Enjoy breakfast in a tropical setting
- Learn daily survival Spanish words and phrases
- Learn the money exchange and how to make change in colones
- Take a bus into town (one key to simple living & slowing down), mix with the locals, and try out your Spanish.
- Go to a local bakery and explore the variety of breads and pastries available.
- Learn about using the local health care system
- Visit the local museum and cultural center
- Visit a barber shop and beauty salon – find out how inexpensively you can get a cut and color
- Spend some time at Ropa American where you can buy clothes for cheap, cheap, cheap.
- Enjoy lunch at a typical “soda”
- Go to the Farmers Market (Fridays only) or to a local organic market to buy fresh fruits and vegetables from local growers for dinner – use your new Spanish skills here! Stop by a grocery store for a tour and to pick up any additional ingredients needed for dinner.
- Learn about the differences in ingredients and cooking methods from what you may be used to, learn about the effects of altitude and humidity on baking, and get a guide to the Spanish names of common ingredients and metric conversions.
- Enjoy a wholesome and tasty dinner – you can help cook if you want! – and learn about the Costa Rican culture over dessert.
